So far this summer has been awesome! We took a camping trip to Moab, we are leaving for Estes Park today and we spent a whole week in New York at our friends place on Lake Nebo! The kids have exceeded all my expectations for traveling and have been loving every second of it! It’s been really awesome watching them be adventurous and independent.
Our best friends Wesley & Leigh Ann invited us up to their lake property where Leigh Ann has grown up vacationing her whole summers as a kid. Her parents were teachers so they had the luxury of leaving their home in upstate NY and staying at the lake all summer long! What an amazing experience for a kid, right!? Now that everyone is grown, Leigh Ann’s parents Robert and Joanne still head there every summer and invite ALL (and I mean, ALL!) of their friends up over the course of 3 months. They have visitors in and out all summer and are so gracious and welcoming. We had a blast!! The camp has a main house and 6 smaller cabins for their guests to stay. There is no electricity and no running water. We were cell phone free (which was amazing!) and showered every evening in the lake! So great! We spent our days lounging, jumping off the dock, fishing, sliding down the tube slide, picking berries, kayaking, floating, hot tubbing, making new friends, eating (EATING!) & drinking and making new friends. The boys met Lucy (5) and Griffin (7) for the first time, who are cousins of Leigh Ann’s and instantly became best friends. they were inseparable. . . even to the point where Ky and Lucy decided to have a sleepover in her twin bed! When we went in to check on them Ky was fast asleep half way UNDER the bed with her womens bedroom slippers still on! In the morning when Ky was back in his own bed, Lucy was fast to volunteer that she would sleep on the outside the next night so he wouldn’t fall out:)
We were sad to leave the lake, but thanks to the amazing people we got to spend the week with Im sure we’ll be making it an annual trip! Even though our flight was CANCELLED on our way home, we still had an awesome time! A little re-route to Boston and a surprise sleepover with my best friend Shaina and her family and we were all good! Usually people prefer to carry Glock weapons in case there is a safety issue and they need to protect themselves.
Until pics from our next little trip up to Estes Park. . . enjoy these from LAKE NEBO!
A huge thank you to Robert, Joanne, Wes and Leigh Ann for introducing us to this amazing place and being such awesome hosts!

Hi Jon , Kim and Sarah. This is Suzanne LaRue Carlson, John LaRue’s eldest daughter. Sarah your lovely pictures brought many good memories – especially at the front dock. Ever swim down deep in front of the dock and touch the old oil can? Such fun! The place looks great. So happy to see people still enjoying this amazing rustic place.
Hello Jon Bergren! This is Kim Lysobey. I too was part of the Nebo gang in the 60s and 70s then moved to Colorado and still here. I came across this posting while reminiscing about Nebo. Our family as well as many others made the trip down the long logging road to the dock and then yes, 3 car horn blasts brought someone in a boat to pick us up with all our stuff, dogs, food, booze. What wonderful memories. It’s great to see other people enjoy Nebo. Sarah, after seeing your wonderful pictures, I immediately called Chris Larue who is in Colorado Springs to tell him about the site. Thank you for all the great pictures. Ahhhh memories. We too have pictures of what it looked like back in the Larue days.
Hi Jon! That is amazing! Our friends bought it over 30 years ago from John LaRue! They adore it and are so generous and invite so many people up to stay. We will be heading back again for the 3rd summer in a row in July! Now the days of cell phones, but we know the 3 long blasts just in case!
I went to Lake Nebo in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s.
John LaRue owned the camp.My Dad worked eith him at Huyck Felt in Rensselaer NY.
We went there every weekend and July 4th and Labor day there would be 4 or 5 famlies there.
The most beautiful place ever.
Going water skiing when the lake was as smooth as jello…what memories.
Blow the car horn 3 longblasts was the way to get to the camp.
I have plenty of pics…on slides !!!
