Shelby & James are Married! | A Vee Bar Ranch Wedding

What a day, what a day! When you envision your wedding day you picture a beautiful blue sky, warm temperatures, laughter and love and your friends and family enjoying every second of it. I’m sure that’s what Shelby & James envisioned of their September Wedding at the Vee Bar Ranch in Laramie Wyoming. Unfortunately for them, the weather had other plans. The day started off a bit cloudy but by the time James & Shelby were about to have their First Look the clouds had rolled in full force and the drops had started to come down. And I say drops, because that is how it started for the first 5 minutes or so, but then the sky let loose and it POURED rain! Not the type of rain where you run out for a few photos and then run back for a break. . . the kind where it’s not even feasible with an umbrella to be out in it. The cats and dogs rain, the buckets and buckets rain! Now you could throw a hissy fit and really freak out if you were the Bride & Groom (given there really was no back up plan for their outdoor ceremony) OR you could be the amazingly cool people that Shelby & James are and honestly laugh at it and roll with the punches! Shelby was adamant on having their ceremony outdoors and you know what? What the Bride wants, the Bride gets! We were able to use a barn’s porch on the property for some photos as my amazing assistant Leighellen help an umbrella over my head so that the Bridal Party could be under cover and the photos came out so fun and really show how hard it was raining! Their friends ran to the nearest store and bought them out of umbrellas and made the most of it! Guests gathered around in the rain to witness Shelby & James say their vows and you know what. . . even though it may have been different than what they had pictured in their minds, there was still laughter and love and friends and family enjoying themselves despite the weather. They huddled in support for the couple and maybe huddled for a little warmth as well! The rain no doubt had any affect on how much these two love each other and if anything only strengthen their bond. It sure will be a fun story to tell!

And just when you thought the time had past for an opportunity for photographs outdoors the rain let up and we had about 20 minutes of GORGEOUS light and picture time! My happy photographer heart was singing with joy! The Vee Bar Ranch is such a beautiful spot and I was so grateful that we were able to be out in the stunning scenery!! (High five weather. . . thanks!)

After the ceremony guests enjoyed a DRY reception filled with food, dancing and thoughtful toasts to the couple. Shelby & James, you truly have such wonderful hearts and great spirits! I’m honored to have been there to capture your wedding day. . . wet or dry. . . and I hope you LOVE your photos! Cheers to a beautiful future!
